Egyptian tourism has been on the rise over the past few years, slowly returning it to its former glory, with several projects like the upcoming Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) nearing completion. In a new statement by the Ministry of Tourism, it has been announced that the Discovery Channel is going to make three promotional films/documentaries about the GEM.
With a purpose to revitalize tourism, and spark new interest in the project, the Discovery network (Discovery Channel, Travel Channel and more) is working with the ministry to make films about the GEM and its construction, and to spread the word around the world about the GEM’s imminent opening in 2020, including in Asia (especially China), the Middle East, Europe, Latin America, and the United States.
Included in the promotional films will be an interview with the Minister of Tourism, Rania al-Mashat, in which she discusses how important the project is and how it’s a valuable addition to the world stage as the biggest museum in the world dedicated to one civilization, and that the museum will for the first time ever unite every artifact belonging to King Tutankhamun, which number to over 5,000 pieces, under one roof.
She also talked about the statue of King Ramses II, which was transferred in 2006 to its new final location in the lobby of the Grand Egyptian Museum to be the first to receive visitors to the museum.
The Minister spoke about the Sphinx Airport, which is 15 minutes away from the museum site, which will facilitate the movement of tourists to it and give them the opportunity to go to different tourist cities after visiting the museum, such as Sharm el-Sheikh or the new city of El Alamein. With other tourist patterns including beach tourism.
The minister added that the international promotional campaign for Egypt also includes promoting each province or tourist attraction separately to highlight the distinctive elements of its branding by Destination, in addition to the People to People campaign, which highlights the diversity of the Egyptian people and aims to promote human rapprochement between peoples The world and the Egyptian people.
