Hilton Luxor Resort & Spa was honoured to recently welcome the Nobel prizewinner, Bangladeshiscientist Dr. Muhammad Yunus, and his family,at the start of a working vacation in Egypt. No stranger to Luxor city, DrMuhammad Yunus combined this trip with a relaxing family break before heading to Cairo at the invitation of the Egyptian Government to share his ideas and insights on tackling poverty.
Famous for his work partnering with disadvantaged communities in Bangladesh, Dr Muhammad Yunus was awarded the prestigious Nobel prize in 2006 after founding the Grameen Bank and pioneering the concepts of microcredit and microfinance. The Bank was hugely successful in supporting the country’s impoverished communities which resulted in eight and a half million borrowers serving 8000 villages across Bangladesh.
Famous not only for his work in the field of science, Dr Yunus is also a social entrepreneur, economist and civil society leader who, in 2008, was ranked number two in the list of the ‘Top 100 Global Thinkers’ by Foreign Policy magazine.
