Minister of Tourism Zoheir Garranah and Director of Alexandria Library Dr. Ismail Serag Aldin opened on October 18 the Planetarium library exhibition hall after it was renovated using the latest technology.
Engineer Huda Miqaty director of the Planetarium Science Center of the Library said that Tourism Ministry has contributed significantly to the development of the display hall which now comprises a set of astronomical three-dimensional features and a huge database of celestial objects helping viewers explore the universe in an unprecedented way.
Mikati added that the new show system enables Planetarium Specialist to yield modern high-tech presentations using touch screens, in addition to viewing their creations directly on stars stage at the display hall. .
The Planetarium, on the other hand, offers a number of recent shows on the occasion of its renewal such as the 30- minute "Seven Wonders" movie and the 23- minute "New Horizons" movie, where the display takes viewers on a exploration journey through the solar system and the world of comets.
Among the new films to be displayed by the Planetarium is also the 35 minute "Stars of the Pharaohs" which suggests that the ancient Egyptians divided the day to 24 hours and the year to 365 days but, according to the movie, did not try, as the did Greeks, to provide a scientific explanation for the movement of the sun, the planets and stars, or even know their position. For them, the sky is a world gods where it represents a balance between order and chaos, between death and resurrection .So, god kings were living on the Earth, then they make a divine trip to take the eternal covenant with stars.
