The fashion capital of Paris hosted an exhibition for Arab gown (or abaya) held early last month in George V’s Hotel. In the exhibition, fashion luminaries competed in showing their talent and latest line in Arab gowns along with its exciting way of dressing such as Nina Ricci, Caroline Herrera, Galliano, Alberta Ferretti, Martin Grant, Jean-Claude Jeterues and Blomarin.
In an atmosphere loaded with music’s and amid a cloud of smoke, a giant gray Arab horse came into being on the stage before the audience and started to jump in the reception hall located beneath the ground and mottled with wonderful drawings .Topping the back of the horse is a red-hair Russian model and behind the horse, there appear a set of models in black gowns who , then, alternated innovatively in taking to the podium to the extent that the audience imagined that they were moved to live on the Arab Peninsula and mix with the Arabian Nights atmosphere.
The exhibition organzer Dania Tarhini who also works for " Saks Fifth Avenue :" stores said she realized that Saudi women wear the brands of leading international designers, but they have to cover themselves with black Arab abaya when the leave abroad.
"I would like them to be able to wear something with which they feel happiness and enjoyment and not being something forced upon them," She added.
Concerning the difficulties faced by her in persuading designers to adopt and implemental western idea, Dania says: “designers were not at the outset of such considerable amount of enthusiasm. They did not understand the fact of the matter, and could not imagine how they can be creating a gown compatible with fashion line. Therefore, I sent them gowns explaining to them that the idea was to make connection between uniform and culture. I told them that the very women wearing evening gowns they designed would also wear gowns which they developed or even innovated,”
Indeed, some designers added pieces of glittering Soaorski- crystal to gown they designed and tempered with gold , fine velvet texture , pearl embroideries , as well as transparent silk.
The Portuguese designer Felipe Oliveira Baptista said: "It was really fun and exciting to work on a dress that has very special rules as the gown is commonly traditionally black covering the body and be long to reach the soles of the feet."
"Saks Fifth Avenue" stores are scheduled to sell from next September a group of models of those gowns at prices ranging between 2000 and 2500 U.S. $ per mantle.
Dania says that the stores will put new sets of gowns twice a year, and will include colors other than black such as dark blue or dark brown.
